Writing is all about our ideas 💡 it is the symbolic representation of thoughts.one can pen appropriately when he knows the exact rules and regulations of writing .writing formally in English is more than just choosing the right words  in the right order.using punctuation in your writing helps the order to understand the text.

Punctuation changes the meaning of the sentences if we write them improperly. Many misunderstandings will arise with improper punctuation marks .

OBJECTIVES 

1. Find out the use of end punctuation like full stop , Question mark and Exclamation mark 

2.Find our  the use of comma , semicolon , capitalisation and apostrophe.

3. Enhance their punctuation skills in writing 

PLAN FOR EXPLORATION 

      First I would like to know my student’s punctuation skills in writing ✍🏻. I conducted a test to analyse their punctuation skills in writing ✍🏻. This is for overall response of writing. The questions are given below . 

1. Do you enjoy in writing 

a. Yes

2. How you feel when your teacher gives a punctuation writing task?

a. Happy 

b. Difficult 

3. What you think about your writing skills?

a. Good 

b. Poor

4.Do you want to improve your writing skills?

a. Yes

All I inquired my co teachers to know about the punctuation skills of their class students . They helped me a lot.

And I asked the student’s parents to know the ability of the students.

I conducted a test to know about the punctuation skills of my students, I distributed worksheets to them to know the primary response of children.and I collected the data from their writing sheets. And from the below table we can understand that maximum pupils are interested in writing.

The above table shows half of the students have negative attitude towards their punctuation skills. They are not good at writing punctuation marks.because they are poor at vocabulary, grammar. They can’t understand the content of the paragraph. 

And some others don’t know how to read. Some students don’t know how to pronounce the words exactly. That’s why the children are facing this difficulties while making the punctuation marks. 

They are facing trouble maximum with the comma punctuation mark. 

Some unknown vocabulary is very tough to the students. They can’t express the feelings without knowing the meaning of the words.

Most of the students can easily find out where to mark the full stop and question mark.but the problem is about comma and exclamation mark. The average percentage of the students in punctuating is 56%. 

Colleagues Observation 

Colleagues observed that students were able to write but they were confusing with the vocabulary. One of my  co teacher found that my way of expression while teaching. It was the mistake of voice modulation. And in their class also students made the same mistake of punctuation. However some of the students seemed to be confused about what to write. And few students were talking unnecessarily. 

They said that students were not able to recognise the sentences and their meaning. That’s why they can’t mark the correct punctuation. 

Plan For Action 

1. Teaching vocabulary is needed 

2. Generating ideas for punctuating 

3.Punctuation games ( punctuation pasta)

4. Funny punctuation memes

After looking at some memes challenge students can write their own. Let them write one sentence and then change its meaning based on what punctuation mark they choose or where they put it.

5. Select a book that the child can easily read and find out the expression. Then they easily mark the punctuation.

6. Use 5-6 sentences in a session.

7. Once completion with short sentences move up to the paragraph level.

8. Punctuation pitch should be taught.

9. Expressing in the correct way.

Action for change 

First of all I prepared the activities and practising vocabulary and generating ideas before assigning the punctuation marks.the best way to generate an idea is using stars 🌟 where to put the punctuation marks. 

Learning at least 5 sentences with the correct punctuation make them good at giving punctuation.

Conclusion

The students are good at writing but the main problem is the poor vocabulary. They interested in writing but they are facing language efficiency. This research is very helpful to me to find out the exact difficulties of my students. Using this I’m able to find the right solution to the student’s problems. It made a easy path to teach punctuation skills in writing.
